Bangkok is a Grab city. The BTS is excellent on its corridor and irrelevant the moment your dinner is down a soi.
Before you land
Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang both have public trains and a crowd of unofficial taxis. Install first, then open Grab or the official taxi desk. Do this before you walk outside.
Getting around
BTS and MRT cover the obvious hotels. Grab is the rest, and it needs data at the curb. River boats are a delight and a separate map pin.
Practical notes
SIMs are sold at the airport for cash, which is the hassle an eSIM is supposed to skip. Plugs are type A, B, and C. Carry a little cash for markets.
